The Commission on Certification of Work Adjustment and Vocational Evaluation Specialists (CCWAVES) is committed to developing and maintaining standards of excellence in practice for professionals who provide services in vocational evaluation, work adjustment, and career assessment. The Commission strives to elevate the quality of services provided to consumers which enhance their vocational opportunities.
CCWAVES certifies practitioners who have demonstrated attainment of acceptable standards of education, experience and knowledge in the fields of vocational evaluation, work adjustment, and career assessment. The primary purpose of certification is to provide assurance that those professionals engaged in evaluation, work adjustment, and assessment meet and demonstrate best practices in the field. The existence of such standards is considered to be in the best interest of consumers, other practitioners, individuals in allied professions and the general public. CCWAVES was established in 1981 as a result of the work of the Vocational Evaluation and Career Assessment Professions. VECAP, in cooperation with other educational, advocacy, and rehabilitation organizations, introduced the first university-level academic program in vocational evaluation in 1967. The Vocational Evaluation Project (1972-1975) and a VECAP Ad Hoc Certification Committee followed. The Ad Hoc Committee was charged with determining the feasibility of developing a certification program for Work Adjustment and Vocational Evaluation Specialists. CCWAVES evolved from the work accomplished by the Committee and was established as an independent commission in 1981.
Seven national organizations are represented on the commission. These appointing organizations are defined as those professional associations, consumer organizations and advocacy groups that represent the broad areas of vocational and career training, special education, education, rehabilitation, and proprietary rehabilitation.
